Voices from The Community

As a middle school math teacher, I find that feedback from colleagues, students, and parents is essential for my growth and effectiveness. Insights from my colleagues foster collaboration and help me improve my teaching practices. Student feedback allows me to tailor my instruction to meet diverse learning needs, while parental input provides valuable context and strengthens our home-school connection. Together, these perspectives enhance my classroom environment and support my students’ success in math.

School Community Contribution

Being part of the P.S./M.S. 29 community has been an incredible privilege. I’ve had the chance to support both students and colleagues in ways that foster excellence inside and outside the classroom. I look forward to continuing and expanding my involvement in the coming years. Below, I've highlighted some of my contributions to our school community.

Test Sophistication: 2023 and 2024

For two years, I implemented a test sophistication program designed to prepare students for state exams. Students were carefully selected based on their classroom performance, with the goal of pushing them to achieve higher scores. Through targeted studying and review sessions, we focused on enhancing their critical thinking skills, familiarizing them with various question formats, and developing effective test-taking strategies. This initiative not only boosted their confidence but also equipped them with the tools necessary to excel in assessments and beyond.

Bronx Lacrosse Tutor: 2024-2025

Bronx Lacrosse incorporates tutoring sessions twice a week to support students in their academic journey, focusing specifically on math. Through intensive individualized Algebra-Readiness Tutoring, students review key mathematical topics essential for preparing for algebra exams. This targeted approach not only reinforces their understanding of concepts but also builds confidence and skills necessary for success in mathematics. By integrating academic support with their athletic program, Bronx Lacrosse ensures that students are well-prepared both in the classroom and on the field.

Instructional Leadership Team: 2024-2025

As a member of the instructional leadership team, I have the opportunity to collaborate closely with the administration and coaches on curriculum development, monitoring student progress, and supporting teacher development. This collaborative approach allows us to align our efforts in creating a cohesive educational experience, ultimately aiming to achieve high levels of student learning across all areas. Together, we work to identify effective strategies, share best practices, and foster an environment where both students and educators can thrive.

Mentoring: 2024-2025

I am mentoring a new teacher at PS/MS 29, guiding him through the intricacies of our school culture and teaching practices. By sharing insights and best practices, I aim to equip him with the skills and confidence needed to become a strong and effective educator in the classroom. Together, we focus on fostering a supportive learning environment that promotes student success and engagement.

Run Club: 2024-2025

I coach the Wolves on the Run Club at PS/MS 29, supported by a grant from Rising New York Road Runners. This program encourages students to embrace physical fitness, build teamwork skills, and develop a love for running. In addition to our practices, students receive math instruction to enhance their learning, making this a great opportunity for them to grow both physically and academically as they prepare for various running events.
